Young people get ‘Back to Work’ at PSJ Fabrications

Work experiencePSJ Fabrications has signed up to the ‘Back to Work’ scheme with its local Job Centre in Bedford to allow young people aged 18 to 24 to gain valuable work experience.

“Many of the youngsters have had jobs in the past, although some have never worked before,” explained Gavin Lodge, Group Production Manager for PSJ Fabrications’ parent company, The Automated Technology Group. “By participating in the scheme, we are providing suitable young people with six weeks’ work experience, after which we can give them a reference or – if we are really impressed – offer them employment.”

Companies taking part in the work experience initiative agree to offer a formal interview for candidates, after which they provide detailed feedback on their performance and, depending on the calibre of the candidates, may offer a period of work experience. “Key to the success of the scheme,” explained Gavin Lodge, “is that the young people do not lose their benefits during the time spent with the company.”

PSJ Fabrications currently has two young people undertaking work experience at the company’s Bedford factory. “They are doing an excellent job so far,” said Gavin Lodge, “so we are delighted to be participating in this innovative scheme.”
